Michael Burnett and Thrasher Magazine brings us Grindland the movie the story of two Pacific Northwest skateboarders who, along with dedicated friends, kickstarted the modern D.I.Y./concrete skatepark revolution. Mark "Red" Scott and Mark "Monk" Hubbard the godfathers of D.I.Y skateboarding, the men who brought you such iconic skateparks as Burnside, this is their story.
From humble and innocent beginings under the bridge just wanting somewhere to skate out of the rain, to getting paid to build skateparks for citys and councils, to having to split off into two companies which went on to have a healthy competition building skateparks all over the world, In Monks words, "to connect the dots man".
This was a great watch, especially for any of you heshers out there and anyone whos loves D.I.Y. culture, skateparks, creativity and skateboardings history. If this doesn't inspire you to go out and do it for yourselfs whatever your "it" might be, nothing really will. This is also a great way to pay respects to those who we lost along the way that helped elevate the skatepark movement to where it is today, Preston "P-Stone" Maigetter, Jake Phelps and Mark "Monk" Hubbard himself.
With words from such faces as Danyel Scott (Reds wife), Buddy Nichols, Sam Hitz, Peter Hewitt, Kaya Hubbard, Grindline the Band and many more.
Give it a watch and get inspired, like Kaya Hubbard(Monks first daughter) says "Concrete last thats how it fucking goes" so go make your mark.
